LIVING OUT OUR MISSION
Our SCC fellowship has always had a deeply committed
heart-felt presence in Haiti, including mission trips, involving three
missions located in separate geographic locations: Living Hope Mission
near Cape Haitien, White Fields in Gonaives and Petit Goave, and Amer-Haitian
House of Hope near Port-au-Prince. These missions provide orphanages,
schools, medical facilities, agricultural projects, and churches.
Members and friends of SCC responded quickly to the January devastating
earthquake by donating as well as purchasing emergency supplies. Many
persons were involved in collecting, packing, and transporting these
items.
Shipped included:
140 suitcases (to be used by the homeless) filled with blankets, towels,
basic medical and hygiene supplies
156 backpacks filled with toothpaste, tooth brushes, towels, washcloths,
miscellaneous school supplies and even a book of Bible stories printed
in French Creole
108 duffle bags, 100-200 T-shirts, 32 pair crutches, 9 canes, 7 walkers
Many boxes, and shipments, of medical supplies
Tarps for shelter
A special offering exceeding $9,000.00 was received and the majority was
immediately disbursed to our missions for critical needs. The balance
will be expended as well. Even the missions located in the north,
although not in the earthquake center, were flooded with refugees from
Port-au-Prince seeking food, shelter, and medical attention.
A construction work team from SCC is planned for this summer, likely in
June, providing security improves and materials become available.
So many of you were involved that space does not allow naming you;
however, I would like to give special thanks to Gary Cooper who devoted
countless hours (and just returned from Haiti) to this great effort.
Thank you, SCC members and friends, for your prayers and quick
outpouring of love.
Ray Gorton, Missions Director
